Effective August 2007: Please note our website host is upgrading our system over the last week of August and the first week of September.

During this upgrade, if you would like to schedule a course for Fall 2007 you may select Courses by Program and click on any course number regardless of the Term listing and request the class online. This will email the registrar with your request. You will receive a response within 3-4 business days.

Courses are scheduled up to a year in advance. Course texts and syllabus may not be available until 6 weeks before class. Information will be posted of required reading, books, etc. as soon as available, so please check the website frequently. Most classes require completion of reading and/or other work before the first class meeting, so that the professor may teach the class using a seminar format.

Courses meet from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM unless otherwise noted.

In addition to regular courses, PSP has adopted a Practicum model for those clinical (MFT and Psychologist) students who are not yet able to accrue license-eligible hours. Participation in a Practicum is voluntary, but earns unit credit, depending on the program in which the student is enrolled. In addition, Practicum hours count towards the internal PSP clinical hours program requirement.

The subject of petitioning to take a class out of sequence comes up from time to time. PSP has defined the format for certain regularly used petitions which can be found on the Forms and Manuals page, but when a potential request does not have a related form, students are asked to send a letter or an e-mail to Provost Dr. Elizabeth Eubanks. The Scope and Sequence of Classes by Term (above) defines when classes are regularly taught in our curriculum. The Scope and Sequence was designed to enable most students to progress through the program in an orderly fashion. However, since PSP allows students to enter into the School at any term, it is possible for a student to miss a class because of insufficient prerequisites at the time of the class. Typically, the student will wait and take the class when it comes onto the schedule again.

Yet, there may develop a situation where the student needs only one class to complete a major milestone in the program of choice, and this class may not be scheduled to be taught for a year or more. For example, a clinical psychologist-bound student who enters PSP in the Track I program may have completed all but one required class for the Masters component. This student may have the requisite number of units to register as a psychological assistant with the Board of Psychology, but requires this one class in order for the transcript to reflect completion of the Masters, also a requirement for registration. In such a case, the student might petition to take this class as a tutorial ahead of schedule.

The decision whether to grant a petition of any kind is related to the merits of the individual case. Simply wanting to take a class out of sequence is insufficient warrant. Students who seek to speed through the program do themselves a disservice.

With the Scope and Sequence of Classes by Term in hand, and a copy of the enrolled program Clearance Checklist (found at Course Progressions), and an unofficial but current transcript (available from the Registrar, any student has the capacity to keep track of their progress through their contracted program. A student who would like an individualized appointment to discuss their progress through their program may contact Registrar
